The mutated [S.sub.1]-haplotype in sour cherry has an altered S-haplotype-specific F-box protein gene
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize pollen part mutant of the [S.sub.1]-haplotype present in sour cherry that contributes to the loss of gametophytic self-incompatability (GSI). Inheritance of S-halotypes from reciprocal interspecific crosses between the self-compatible sour cherry cultivar Ujfehertoi Furtos (UF) carrying the mutated S[sub.1]-halotype revealed that the mutated S[sub.1]-haplotype confers unilateral incompatibility with a functional pistil component and a nonfunctional pollen component.

Inbreeding ancestors: The role of sibmating in the social evolution of gall thrips
Article Abstract:
Microsatellite data is used to estimate levels of inbreeding in four species of solitary gall thrips that are in the same clade as the six species with soldier castes. Mapping of inbreeding estimates onto the phylogeny of the gall inducers showed that ancestral lineage gave rise to highly inbred soldiers and hence, played a role in the origin of sociality within this group.

Mean d2 and divergence time: Transformations and standardizations
Article Abstract:
A measure of relatedness of parental haplotypes, mean d(sup 2) is proposed. It is demonstrated that mean d(sup 2) is a linear measure of divergence time between parental lineages when there is no constraint on allele size.
